INSTRUCTORS:

LeRoy H. Graw, EdD, C.P.M.(Certified Purchasing Manager), CPCM (Certified Professional Contracts Manager) and NCMA Fellow will be course director. He will be ably assisted by David Spencer, Certification Vice President for the Chapter. Mr. Spencer is also a CPCM and NCMA Fellow.

PURPOSE:
This review is designed to provide those individuals who desire CPCM certification with a basic orientation on the structure and content of the examination, tips on what to study and how to study, and practice responding to typical CPCM examination questions (those found on previous editions of the examination). Those individuals preparing for the CACM Review will be attended to with guidance appropriate to that examination.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. To develop an understanding of the types of questions found on the "General" (morning) part of the examination.

2. To develop an understanding of the types of questions found on the "Areas of Concentration" (afternoon) part of the examination.

3. To develop an understanding of the various materials available for use in preparing for the examination.

4. To develop an understanding of the CPCM (and CACM) examination process and tested methods of preparation for same.

COURSE COMPETENCIES:

UPON COMPLETION OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL BE:

* Competent in understanding how procurement and contract managers plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and control the preaward and post-award contracting functions.

* Competent in establishing appropriate contracting policies and guidelines.

* Competent in determining appropriate and relevant:

1. methods for solicitation, ordering, and payment;

2. types of contracts;

3. proposal evaluation criteria and methods;

4. award processes;

5. contract administration processes.

* Competent in applying effective writing principles and techniques appropriate to the discipline.

* Competent in applying the skills of critical thinking (knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation) to solve problems and to support statements of beliefs and opinions.

* Competent in linking and synthesizing information learned in this review to the greater body of knowledge related to the discipline.
